I'm relatively new to modern 40k lore and I was wondering: Is the Emperor really just a decayed, lifeless skeleton like the classic john blanche art depiction or is he more physically intact but just lifeless except for the golden throne preserving him? Is his current state comparable to Malcador's time on the throne, basically being dust held together by psychic power?

I've just finished reading the first dark imperium book and Guilliman being so sorrowful and disillusioned after seeing the emperor's current state has me curious.
