Hello! After trying to get into 40k a while ago and taking a break from the hobby for a bit, I’m dipping my toes back in with the best army in the game, the Thousand So- I mean, Custodes!

I was very hyped when I saw the new releases and I was lucky to be gifted a set of the new HH Spear Guards and the new Shield Captain! I decided to buy the box of Sword Guards and managed to snag a good deal on 3 used Allarus guys (one has the Vexilla already so rest in peace that one for a while I guess).

I’m trying to get to 1000 points to do some practice games against my brother’s Death Guard so that we can both learn the game together (He started with the DG battle force box that had two bloat drones and a combat patrol, this info might be important as it’s what I’m playing into). I’m not going to buy this all at once, so don’t worry about a pile of shame building up. I already learned that the hard way that that’s not very smart.

I believe the next step towards getting to 1000 points would be a Sisters of Silence squad and a tank. This is where my somewhat specific questions come in.

  1. This feeds into the next question, but between the Caladius and the Land Raider, which is more likely to get the smelly British boot in a few months? No one knows this for sure of course, but seeing as these are the only usable tanks in Custodes, which, in your much more informed opinion, is less risky? Or is the secret third choice of allying Armigers the least risky?
  2. If I were to buy a tank, should I go for a Land Raider or the new plastic Caladius? I think they both look great, and would happily purchase either one.
  3. If I chose the Land Raider, is the Proteus from HH safe to be used anywhere, even in official GW events? I have read that it is a bunch of different places but I would like to double check.

Also, I’ve seen a box floating around on EBay that is a LR Explorator that goes for much cheaper, I’m assuming that you can’t use this is 40k?

  1. If I don’t buy a tank, what should I buy?

  2. What is a paint scheme that isn’t the normal gold that is still extremely easy and looks good? I haven’t been able to find one other than Shadowkeepers that I enjoy more than the gold, and that looks way, way too hard for someone of my skills to not get burned out doing. EDIT: Actually, I’m just dumb, and Shadowkeepers probably wouldn’t be that hard. Regardless, what’s some paint schemes you would highly recommend that are still pretty easy?

Thanks!
