Best Types of Players to Farm

What are the best types of players to farm in on my bench? There is only so much space for developing talent and in leagues where benches aren’t as deep, what are the best types of players to stash?

RBs seem to be best for potential use on a contending team in season. WRs need time to develop and would hate to miss out of a breakout but can be the biggest cloggers. And QBs are tough to drop given the upside, but it’s tough to roster folks like Will Howard, Jalen Milroe and Garrett Nussmeier if 2-3 bench spots are already being used on other QBs.

13 bench spots for reference.

When to stop tiering up players

At what point do you stop trying to trade packages for upgrades in fantasy? If I can have an elite player in every starting slot but absolutely no depth, is it worth it? Or better to have a depth piece at each role and a slightly less elite starter?

Given how much value can fluctuate year to year, there has to be a breaking point where tiering up simply isn’t worth it because your two or three pieces on the package side could boom while the person you traded for got injured, traded to a worse situation, fell off a cliff etc.

How do you decide when to keep the depth or upgrade?

What are the best types of players to stash in the offseason? Which positions have the most potential to spike from offseason intel? Should I hold or play hot potato with the next big “breakout” headlines?

Any QB with a chance to start is going to clog my roster, and I’m okay with that such as Mac jones, Riley Leonard, Will Howard (unless Rodger’s signs).

Any WR that is worth a stash is already being held. There are candidate on teams where the starters are not established, such as players on the Raiders and Dolphins that I believe can be drafted based on personal preference. But something to keep an eye out for are receivers blowing up such as Puka.

RBs seem to fluctuate the most and I feel should be played a bit more aggressively with the potential to identify players that may get playing time.

TEs seem to be the biggest roster cloggers in the offseason. Should I really stash an unproven but higher drafted TE hoping they’ll break out in the next few years? By value, players like Elijah Arroyo and Mason Taylor are ranked higher than RBs such as Trevor Ettiene and Jarquez Hunter.

I’m tempted to prioritize RBs that have potential to establish themselves in solid roles over the next 4 months. Am I thinking about this the right way? Or does every position have the same chance of generating significant value in the offseason?
