English Lab Breeders In/Near NJ?

English Lab Breeders In/Near NJ?

Sadly, my 9.5 yo boy passed from HSA. I got him from Stormy Cs in NJ. He was an amazing animal, and exemplified everything great about English Labs (at least for me). Everyone that met him, loved him; he was a celebrity in the neighborhood. Sadly, his breeder seems retired, so I'm looking for recommendations for other breeders to obtain a puppy from in the future.

Here's a picture of my boy.

I loved my boy, Isaac so much.  He was more my wife's dog for the first four years of his life because she was a stay-at-home mom, though I did spend time with him everyday. Then my wife left, and I became primary parent of our daughter, and I solely took care of Isaac for three years - and it wasn't always easy, walking him three times a day, etc - but he was good companionship, and I've worked from home since, so he was with me all day, every day.  Then the past two & half years, he went between my house and my ex-wife's house, where they have other dogs, so it was nice he had that experience.

When I think back on his life, he had a great life, and it's hard to think of anything bad or sad in his life.

  • He was always well loved by the family.
  • He was walked three times a day - usually long walks, though he slowed down as he got older.
  • He was fed very well, with quality kibble, and he always got much of my food.  Along with his twice a day small serving of kibble, each morning he’d get a bite of my protein bar, during the day I would share snacks, we would share lunch and dinner.  I would often bring him home food from restaurants.
  • Before divorce, he was regularly had my ex for company during the day, and after the divorce he spent all day with me while I worked from home. He had a love seat in my office, where he'd sit and look out the window much of the day.
  • After divorce, for three years we were constantly together, and had a lot of fun.  A couple years ago, my ex started taking him a few days a week, and there he got to live & play with other dogs.
  • He was often groomed, and recently I bought specialty brushes and would thoroughly brush him a few times a week, which he loved.
  • He always got good medical attention.  And I gave him medicine, supplements and probiotics to help keep him healthy.
  • I took him to the park and other places to walk.  More recently, I tried to take him a couple times a month.
  • He was friends with many dogs in the neighborhood, and was friendly with every dog he met.
  • Everyone in the neighborhood knew and loved him.
  • He often laid outside on the lawn, when the weather was nice.
  • He always had toys, and we would try to stimulate him with the feeder ball and other toys.

The loss hurts terribly. My heart goes out to all other pet owners going through this.

10yo Lab, slowing down a bit and has some arthritis, but mostly seems happy. He wasn’t well when I woke this morning, so I took him to the hospital and have been there most of the day, and had to switch hospitals midway through.  He has internal bleeding and it’s a 65%-80% chance it’s cancer - so I’ve been proceeding with testing to try to get a better indication - for example, if it’s metastasized throughout his body.   If that’s the case, I’d likely euthanize him, but if there’s a chance it’s benign, then I’ll have surgery to give him a splenectomy (likely cause of bleeding).  I’ve left him for the night at the hospital; they’re gonna do an ultrasound a little later, which could provide an indication, followed by a CT scan in the morning - then I need to decide if to proceed with the surgery or not.

I understand the odds, but with a 20-35% chance of it being benign, I feel unless there's a strong indication it's cancer for sure, I should give him that chance and have the surgery. And at worst, I'd still prefer some option to bring him home brief before euthanasia.

Any advice or tips?
