
Carastor had spent a fortnight deep within the solitude of Tarangar’s verdant jungles deciphering with intrigue the Sage’s final missive. He then rushed back to the town of Mohana to report his findings to the young Tampurati who he encountered in a progress with her retinue. She was elated to see the wizard, as it had been near a decade since he had left to seek out his kin in the East.
“Pained words filled with loss and self-loathing, this was the nature of the last testament of Athiyan the Mahayati”, Carastor exclaimed. It was not a tale of Athiyan’s renowned life but instead a somber elegy encompassed of desperation and relentless shame.
Upon the Lady Uinen’s hewn form, the Sage recounted that none knew the origins of the River Temptress, only that she had been a quiet scourge upon the lands of the East as long as men had written their histories. Many forms she had taken of women more beautiful than the next, carefully crafting a new identity anytime her hunters came close to unmasking what she truly was. As years passed, the Tarangari began looking to their sages to uncover the mysteries of the Temptress and bring forth her demise. Many dared not take upon the task out of trepidation, while others in great bravery sought out of the creature, only to be vexed by her gifts and devoured.
In the age of the Vēntan (the title used by Emperor’s of Tarangar) Dāsan III, Athiyan with unbounding fortitude sought out the creature. For years he had delved through what ancient knowledge on the Temptress the Yāti of elder days had compiled. He himself had travelled the land, visiting with the families of those she had devoured as well as tracing the horrific sites in which she had feasted upon her victims. Athiyan was indomitable, for he determined to fulfill what no other Mahayati before him could do.
In such spirit, the Sage wrote that he had found her sordid lair and laid eyes upon her true atrocious form feasting upon a fresh victim. All however, would end in shame and failure. These last lines of script were incised in contorted form, as if full of rage. While Athiyan’s words concluded here, he had left also a description of the creatures wretched abode…
