So I'm going through the Way of the Shadowlands book, from I think 2e. There's a great section on option Taint Symptoms that characters can gain on page 69. It separates the symptoms into minor and major physical and mental, and some cool ones for when your Taint rank exceeds a specific ring.

The issue I'm having is that some of the symptoms have Deformity/# at the end of them.

For example, the Minor Physical symptom 4 is: hair becomes extremely greasy, all body hair grows more quickly than normal. Deformity/10.

Number 5 in the same list is: nervous facial tic during periods of stress Willpower vs. TN 5 to avoid. Deformity/10 that cannot be disguised.

What is the Deformity/#? I can't find any information about it in the book or in the 1e or 2e core books. Only some of the symptoms have it, and it's only the physical ones. I assume it's some check for NPCs to notice, or for the character to hide it, but I can't find any information on it. It's possible that it's a holdover from development that got left in the printing I have, but I've tried looking online, and can't find anyone talking about it. At least, no talking about it in any form that is still accessible.

The numbers don't seem to be proportional at all. Flaky white skin has 15, and so are boils that prevent you from riding a horse or using a sword, but shaking hands is 10, and sunken eyes that make all perception checks have +5 TN is Deformity/5. Pallid and rotten skin is Deformity/0. I guess it could be like a passive perception check threshold like in DnD, but it doesn't explain the meaning of the number anywhere that I can see. As far as I can tell, the Deformity/# only appears in this section of this book.
