Hi everyone, Rob here. Since 2024 I run small digital marketplace with my business partner, and this year we started working with customers and vendors across several EU countries (before it was only one country where we are from - France). To support the growth, we recently leased warehouse space in Spain and bought inventory from suppliers in Germany and Netherlands.

Now we’re trying to understand our tax compliance obligations, especially around filing our first VAT return. We want to stay fully compliant, but we’re also trying to avoid unnecessary costs or mistakes that could create problems later, because you know how this niche tricky, huh.

For those who've dealt with EU VAT across several countries before: is it realistic to manage the VAT return process yourself the first time, or is it safer to work with an accountant or dedicated VAT compliance services provider?

Especially curious how businesses are handling international VAT and tax compliance now in 2026. Are there reliable tools that make filings easier, or does the complexity still make outsourcing the better option?

Thank you.

Hope to get some advice from people who have recently gone through condo remodeling & renovation

My sister and I recently bought older condo near North York for our mother, who is planning to move closer to us later this year. Building itself is in decent shape, but unit is very dated. It looks like it has barely been touched since the 1950-1960s, so we are trying to figure out what kind of renovation costs we should expect before speaking seriously with contractors.

The condo is around 750 square ft, and we'd like to update most of it: flooring, kitchen cabinets, countertops, bathroom fixtures, lighting, electrical work, painting, appliances, and possibly some plumbing. Not planning anything luxury, but we obviously want it done properly and safely, especially because condo buildings have strict rules about noise, permits, elevators, insurance, and approved contractors.

Since we've never managed a renovation before, we're finding it difficult to understand what pricing and estimates for condo upgrades are usually based on. Some people tell us to budget per square foot, others say the biggest cost depends on kitchens and bathrooms, and others say condo renovations in Toronto & nearest districts can be more expensive because of building restrictions and labour costs.

So I wanted to ask: what is a realistic price range for a mid-level condo renovation in Toronto & area in early 2026? Are renovation prices in Toronto much higher than in other Canadian cities, or is the difference mostly in labour and contractor availability? Also, when contractors provide quotes, what should we pay attention to so we can compare estimates properly?

It would also be super-helpful to know where it is possible to save money without making bad decisions. For example, is it better to keep the same kitchen and bathroom layout, choose ready-made cabinets, reuse appliances, or buy materials ourselves? And where should we absolutely not cut corners?

Any advice from people who recently renovated condo would be greatly appreciated. We still at early research stage and just want to understand the numbers before committing to anything.

May God bless y'all!
