sidious wants maul dead, yes. but he also wants vader firmly under his boot. i think giving vader even the slightest impression that he’s disposable is a bad idea.

i think sidious knows full well it’s a terrible idea to make vader go and kill his old apprentice. it’s basically like saying ‘this will be you when you’re no longer useful to me’. not a smart plan.
