Not sure if this is allowed here, but I want to argue against anti-aging.
First off, I think it's possible to eventually, with the right methods in the future, get to a point where humans don't die of old age. There are bacteria that do not age, and if we find a way to shut down the processes that cause our aging, problem solved. Really hard problem, but with enough time, we'll probably get there.
But... I don't think that's a good thing. I mean... nature/evolution already has the capability of producing life that doesn't age. Yet everything that is bigger than a plankton does age. Why? Isn't aging bad? Well, not if you think less about the individual and more about the entire species/society.
Aging means that old strong individuals make room for young, growing individuals. That way the population renews itself, and allows for quicker adaptation to new circumstances. We are getting older and older and its taking longer and longer for young individuals to reach a place in society that is comparable to what older folk have, to the point where by the time they get there many are outside their reproductive age. And the views and opinions of 80 year olds that are caught up in thought patterns from ages ago keep holding us back.
So I say dont do it, but as an individual I get why youd want to. Feel free to bring counter-arguments.
Edit: if we'd solve it to the point where fertility stays with age i might change my mind.
