I'll start off by saying: I know Little Leagues show favoritism. I remember it from when I was a kid in Little League and I have already seen it in our league this year. This isn't a question of "is this team getting favoritism" because I know they are. This is a question of: Should I be upset about this much favoritism?
The context of our League: We have 6 teams in our Coach Pitch Little League. Of the 71 kids playing this year, 16 of them played in Coach Pitch last year. 5 of those 16 kids are on one team. It goes without saying that this team is by far and away the best team in our league. While most of the other teams are fielding players who are still 5 and in kindergarten, this team is fielding multiple 8 year olds. I know there's probably some fishy stuff going on there but, honestly, that doesn't actually bother me that much.
What does bother me is this: last week on Wednesday, the league sent a message to the Coach Pitch coach group chat saying that all games on 5/2 are cancelled and are moved to new times/locations. I was browsing Facebook tonight and I see the Little League posted that the aforementioned team won a tournament. This was surprising to me because no one had ever mentioned that a tournament was happening. They didn't invite anyone else from our league and they cancelled all of our games to host this tournament on a week's notice. If this was a preplanned event that the best team in the league would go on to play in some tournament, I'd be totally fine with this. But the text I received last week and the fact they had to modify the schedule to do this clearly shows this wasn't planned in advance. I'm really upset about this because they're favoring this team so heavily, giving them more games and experience than the rest of the league. I'd like to play more games. I think my kids would also like to play more games, too.
Am I overreacting to this? Is this somewhat normal? Is there anything I can even do about it?
