Hey r/alphaandbetausers,
Solo dev here. I got frustrated enough with calorie apps to build my own.
The problem I kept hitting: logging food is a second job. Search the database, find the wrong entry, guess the portion, repeat. I quit every app by week 3. Not because I lacked motivation but because the friction was exhausting.
What Pando does differently:
You just talk to it. "Had a chicken stir fry and rice for lunch" → it asks one or two precision questions (portion size? cooked in oil?) → logged in under 30 seconds with real macros.
But the part I'm actually most proud of: it recalibrates your calorie targets every week based on your actual weight trend. Not the TDEE estimate from day one that never changes. If you're losing too fast, it increases your calories. Stalling despite effort? It adjusts the deficit. Your metabolism is dynamic — your goals should be too.
Oh, and it has personality. Think less "cold fitness app" and more "slightly sarcastic coach who actually wants you to succeed."
What I'm looking for:
People who have genuinely struggled with tracking consistency. Not people who want a perfect app people who will tell me when something is broken, confusing, or annoying.
Ideal tester profile:
- Tried and quit at least one calorie app
- Has a weight loss, maintenance, or muscle gain goal
- Will actually use it for 2+ weeks and give honest feedback
