Giardia

Queen

Location - New Mexico
Environment - Very dry/hot

3 year old female Border Collie
Spayed at 2 years old

One year ago in 2025, she presented with random nasty diarrhea. She would have accidents all over the house/on the bed/in her kennel all of a sudden. Would constantly be trying to poop. She never showed a fever, lethargy, or vomiting. Appetite stayed healthy and she drank water as usual. Treated heavily with Fenbendazole for a week (I usually do 3-4 days on my other dogs, but was advised to use for a week), symptoms went away and stool went back to normal. 2-3 months later, back to having nasty diarrhea all over the house. Treated again, got better, this cycle has repeated 4 times now. This presents randomly, one hour she will be having normal solid poops and the next it’s a disaster. We have tried grain free, sensitive stomach foods and RX foods and she still has these episodes every couple of months, I refuse to feed a raw diet so please do not recommend. She’s been on almost every probiotic on the market as well.

I would also like to add that I train Border Collie working dogs to aid us on our cattle ranch. I deworm my dogs monthly with Fenbendazole due to them drinking from so many different water sources and/or eating livestock poop. The first time my female got this diarrhea, two of my other dogs did too so I treated them at the same time and sanitized all bowls and kennels. The others have never gotten it again, except for this one female.
