Hello all,
I've been interested in getting into bug farming for some time now and have researched options like Black soldier flies and worms. On a fishing trip the other day my son kept finding isopods rather than worms under every rock and where he's usually squeamish he really likes these little guys. I decided to look into them and found that they breed pretty quickly and much like BSF can eat just about any rotting substance.
I did notice there seems to be a lack of mass produced isopod as a source of protein supplement for larger domestic animals (ie. BSF or meal worm chicken feed). Is there a reason for this? Or have I stumbled upon a niche here. It seems like a no brainer as they're so easy to take care of and breed large amounts on what is essentially free or cheap food and shelter. They don't even have cycles that need to be tightly managed like meal worms or BSF.
I'd appreciate any insight from the expert community here.
Thank you.
