Mass Effect - Uncharted Worlds Recreated in VCV Rack (Modular Synth Cover)

Mass Effect - Uncharted Worlds Recreated in VCV Rack (Modular Synth Cover)

In this video I recreate the iconic Mass Effect theme "Uncharted Worlds" using VCV Rack modular synthesis.

The goal was to get as close as possible to the original atmosphere and sound design using virtual modular modules inside VCV Rack. The Mass Effect soundtrack by Jack Wall is famous for its cinematic ambient textures and evolving synth layers, and modular synthesis is a perfect tool to explore that sound.

This patch also demonstrates the power of VCV Rack as a modular synthesis environment. Even without physical hardware, VCV Rack provides the depth, flexibility, and sound design possibilities of a full modular system.

Another advantage is that each sequence can be saved as a preset, allowing you to store ideas and instantly recall them later when building new patches or compositions.

If you enjoy modular synthesis, generative ambient patches, and game soundtrack recreations, you might enjoy this one.

Inspired by the original Mass Effect soundtrack.

Mormon Tea - Into the Pond, 2026

A slow system of echoes unfolds in quiet space.
Fragments of rhythm appear briefly, dissolve, and return as distant reflections. The material is minimal—small pulses, filtered noise, submerged harmonics—but through long feedback paths and unstable delays it expands into dense, drifting structures.

These recordings document a process rather than a performance—signals circulating through unstable systems until they settle into temporary forms.

The result is a series of suspended moments, where rhythm and ambience drift somewhere between structure and disappearance.

GRAINER in VCV Rack - 20 Minute Ambient Jam

Grainer is a real-time granular processor that works in a similar way to Clouds. It records incoming audio into a short buffer and breaks it into tiny grains, which are then stretched, layered, and re-pitched to create evolving textures.

You can control grain size, density, pitch, position, and stereo spread, while built-in randomization adds organic movement. It also includes a reverb based on the Clouds algorithm, which helps turn simple sounds into wide ambient pads and atmospheres.

HOW TO SOUND LIKE ENO — Generative Ambient Patch in VCV Rack

This video demonstrates a fully generative ambient patch built in VCV Rack, inspired by the ambient systems and philosophy of Brian Eno and the album Music for Airports.

The patch uses random voltages, probability, slow modulation, granular processing, and moving reverb to create continuously evolving ambient music with no fixed sequence, no MIDI clips, and no repetition.

Download the patch:   / 150352439

Pitch is generated from random CV, scaled and quantized to maintain harmonic coherence. Piano tones are produced using OUROS, shaped with filters and envelopes, and processed through Supercell for granular memory and Plateau for dynamically modulated reverb.

This is not a performance.
It’s a self-running ambient system.
