Me? I'd do the following

1.) I'd have Lupin have some version of the gravity device from the 2019 movie. It would give a way for him to survive the drop through the trap door and some other big falls that doesn't quite test my sod.

2.) Characterization: I kinda agree that the movie made Lupin a bit too much of a straight up hero and honestly you can have him save Clarisse without making him too noble. I LOVE how in the original movie a part of it is obligation for her saving his life so I'd play that up and honestly have him similar to his part V characterization in that yeah he can be violent and amoral but he has some lines he won't cross and one of them is "if someone shows you kindness, you repay it"
