Will Ubuntu install on my old machine
I have a very old pc. i7 4770k. 16gd DDR3. using integrated graphics. old gigabyte z87 chipset mobo.
I installed nobara linux kde and it worked fine.
I have decided I want to run Ubuntu 26.04 LTS instead IF it is possible.
- I downloaded the ISO.
- Flashed a definitely working (installed nobara fine) brand new USB thumb drive with the ISO.
- restarted pc
- got to the purple splash screen with the raccoon guy
- no install thing ever came up even after half an hour
- re-flashed the drive to make sure it wasn't corrupted
- tried safe graphics option
- got error message
- tried turning off secure boot in bios
- set shared graphics memory setting in bios to 128
- hit "e" at the menu where it asks for regular or safe graphics install
- tried nomodeset parameter with several addendums
- furthest I got after spending a few hours was being stuck on a command line after the Md5 check passed.
- nothing i have tried seems to boot the graphical user interface for installing it
