ISO advice on childcare assistance or programs that offer scholarships in Birmingham, AL
Hope this is allowed here, I’m desperate for any advice or suggestions. I have just escaped a domestic violence situation with my 14mo daughter, and I need to get her into year-round daycare ASAP so that I can start working but I cannot afford daycare myself nor can I get approved for the subsidy program until after I’m able to get some consistent income. I’m looking for resources that may be able to help or specific programs that offer private need-based scholarships. Any advice is appreciated!
We are effectively homeless(couch surfing), and I am under-employed DoorDashing just to barely scrape by on the few bills and needs we have. We are receiving SNAP, WIC, and she is on Medicaid.
Some resources that we have already tried:
-DHR subsidy program(ARISEcare). Didn’t meet the minimum income requirements.
-Child Care Resources(HeadStart). Should qualify but they are on a waitlist and the older kids are nearing the end of the school year so this will be several weeks out if they even have availability at the time.
-YWCA. Does not provide assistance with childcare, referred us to CCR
-One Place. Unsure if they offer childcare assistance as my appointment isn’t until Tuesday.
-JeffCo Child Development Counsel. Does not offer summer care and I need year-round care.
-Catholic Charities. Cannot get anyone to answer the phone or respond to voicemails. Have tried multiple divisions.
