Hi I’ve worked in aviation for 5 years now 1 as a ramp agent and 4 in dispatch where I am currently at a major. Based on numerous reasons I have been considering switching to pursue a career in maintenance. I know you need to obtain an A&P or one or the other depending on the position you apply to but I’d just like some insight on the best way to go about it. I do not have a military background so I’d likely be looking for the community college part 147 school option. I’d also be open to an airline apprenticeship if that is a good way to do it. My ultimate goal would be to work as an A&P for Delta at MSP so I’d appreciate any info on the best way to get into delta whether it would be starting at endeavor or in a lower tech ops position within mainline. I saw delta has a Aircraft Support Mechanic role which does not require an A&P and is listed as an entry level position but do you need certain skills or experience to actually have a chance at getting that position? The qualifications were pretty much be 18 or older, high school graduate, and drivers license.
I appreciate any info or advice, I’m sure these types of questions have been asked a million times so if there is a better source for information you could point me to that would be great as well!
