I’m moving and am looking to pass off the reigns.

Attention r/portlandcomplaining community:
After four glorious years of bitching, moaning, roasting, venting, and occasionally solving problems, it’s time for me to pass the torch. I’m moving away and looking for someone from this beautifully salty community to take over moderation duties.

Four years ago, I was living on Exchange Street, fueled almost entirely by parking tickets, frustration, and a deep love for this city. Out of that chaos came this subreddit, a place where people could blow off steam, laugh at the absurdity of Portland life, and say the things everyone else was thinking.

What started as a joke and an outlet somehow turned into a real community (6k members and growing). I could never have imagined what this sub would become. I’m incredibly proud of all of you. We’ve built something Mainely authentic here, a place where people can complain while still caring deeply about the city and state underneath it all. We’ve bitched, we’ve memed, we’ve collectively lost our minds over parking, rent, tourists, construction, city council decisions, and whatever nonsense the week brought us. And somewhere along the way, people started paying attention. (Yes, Portland City Council absolutely lurks here. fuck you guys ;)

At the core of this sub has always been one idea: free expression. People should be able to speak their minds, disagree, vent frustration, and joke without everything turning into a sterilized corporate HR meeting. The moderation style here has intentionally stayed loose. As long as you’re not threatening people, doxxing, or posting blatant hate speech, the spirit has generally been: LET THE PEOPLE TALK.

So now, I’m looking for someone to carry that spirit forward.

If you’re interested in taking over moderation, shoot me a PM. Ideally, applicants should be fair-minded, non-biased, and understand the balance between keeping the peace and letting people freely express themselves.

Also: FUCK Portland Oregon. We’re better than you. But I love when you wander into the sub confused. But I also hate it.

@Marybitchards — if you’re reading this, you were one of the original legends of this sub, and you are officially my first nominee to take over, you salty bitch. But applications are open to everyone.

In closing, I love you all. Keep complaining, keep laughing, keep blowing off steam. But remember, underneath all the sarcasm and rage-bate posting, we’re still citizens of a beautiful city. Portland is what it is because of the people in it, and it only gets better if the people who care about it stay engaged enough to complain about it.

Stay salty.
