Vehicle repairs
Hi there. My ex husband walked out on myself and our 3 kids nearly a month ago. The family car that I drive is in his name as is the registration. He has been wanting to sign it over in to my name but several Redditors suggested I get a service report done first. Obviously I know the car is falling apart but I’m also curious to know what the “damage” is as he has had maybe 1 or 2 services done on it and replaced the tyres 2-3 times our entire nearly 10 year marriage. But that’s it. I use it to take the kids to and from school. Once the service report was done I sent it to him (photo attached) and told him he either needed to remedy the items listed or replace the vehicle. As it stands if I drive it and get pulled over and they do a vehicle check, it would be deemed in-roadworthy and I’d get a fine. But I don’t have the option of a bus for the kids to get to school, so I have no choice but to drive them daily. He WAS looking at another vehicle but said he stopped because I made a COMMENT about the age of the vehicle he was looking at (2005 Ford Territory) being older than OUR family car (2012 Holden Commodore) and apparently he “couldn’t get a loan”. Is there such thing as a mechanic who would do all the repairs and then send him the invoice to pay? He wants to have it fixed in stages “when he can afford it” but he has prioritized his work truck our entire relationship and I would not put it past him to be petty and use any money he saves to work on his truck instead. He has been incredibly hostile this entire month and I am doing all I can to leave but I have nowhere to go and am unable to work as I have a medical exemption for mental health issues. The way I see it, no one in their right mind would take ownership of a car in this bad of a condition. But like I said, it is my ONLY option to get my kids to and from school. It’s his car, he bought it before we met and it’s registered in his name. I am certainly not going to be out of pocket for repairs to a vehicle I do not own. Thankyou.
