So it seems like the song alignment chart thingy has ended prematurely, which makes sense, because people were getting pretty mad in the comments. I’m not trying to hate on the idea, but I also understand why a lot of people were getting frustrated. It was fairly predictable which songs were going to win based on their popularity, and it was annoying to see all of his lesser known tracks being discarded or voted worst. Not that it isn’t fun to have that kind of discussion, I just suspect that’s where things went wrong for people.
I want to propose an alternative format for a similar kind of discussion. Elliott’s discography is so consistent that almost ever track has something worth talking about, whether it’s a perfect lyric or a cool little guitar part. I think it would be fun to have a daily post where a random song is drawn from his catalog and people discuss what makes it great. This could involve a piece of trivia involving the song, an analysis of the lyrics, or just general appreciation for Elliott’s genius. Obviously it will be a mix of more and less popular songs, but it’ll give people a chance to discuss songs that don’t get much attention.
I know we have already had the daily song discussion in which all of his songs were rated, but what I think a lot of people would like to see is Elliott’s less well-known songs being given equal attention. And not necessarily for the sake of evaluating how good of a song it is, but more to highlight the songs strengths. If you’re someone who has never had someone to talk to about how awesome First Timer or How to Take a Fall is, this would be a great opportunity. Is this something anyone would like to see?
tl;dr: daily post where a random song is chosen and we glaze it
