“In a Facebook posting, Rep. Emily Dievendorf, D-Lansing, said the neighborhood has "far from recovered" from the shooting of six people on the night of April 23 at the intersection of Chestnut and Hillsdale streets.

I am imploring event organizers to cancel the salute," Dievendorf wrote, noting that the shooter had not been apprehended by police.”

Did anybody in the community ask for this? I have a very hard time believing anybody is even going to notice this extremely brief ceremonial salute, much less give a fuck. They fire blanks that are significantly quieter than the average gunshot, and with no supersonic crack from a bullet, nobody beyond the event is even going to realize the sounds came from “guns” and not fireworks or a backfiring car.

Just seems extraordinarily performative, especially if nobody actually impacted by the shooting is demanding this change.
