Hi!

I just had an initial interview for a position that I am extremely excited about. I think everything went well but the one thing I’m a little nervous about is my answer to “why are you leaving your current job“

I am currently employed in a comfortable position, but there are a lot of things wrong with the company. One of my biggest motivators for job hunting is that I just hate the industry I’m in.

I was honest and let them know that this is the only position I’ve applied to. When she asked why I’m leaving my current job, I said that I was looking for somewhere that I had a stronger connection too, somewhere that I would be proud contributing to and feel passionate about. She was late to the interview so we were running through the questions quickly and that was all I had time to say.

Is this answer okay or will it cost me this position?

TLDR: When asked why I want to leave my current position, I said that I was looking for somewhere that I had a stronger personal connection too. Will that cost me this opportunity?

Hi!

I have an initial interview for a data scientist position at a pretty big company coming up. A few years ago they laid off 15% of their workforce (11% official, 4% pips) due to stagnant sales growth (which probably won’t improve drastically). I really want to work there but I am slightly concerned about the security.

Is there an acceptable way to ask about this during the interview process? If so, when and how?

Thank you!

Hi!

I have an initial interview coming up with a hiring manager for a data science role at a well known company. I asked around and heard that majority of this interview is left open for questions. What are some of the best / most impactful / most memorable questions to ask the hiring manager?

I have more technical questions that I want to ask the team if I am able to move forward, but I want to stand out in this first step in order to get there.

Thanks!

Hi!

So I am currently employed at a good company, but saw an open role as a data scientist at Etsy and I really really want it. I submitted my application, reached out to recruiters and have made connections with a few different people who currently work there. (I think one submitted a referral for me)

If I can make it through the wall of applications and secure an interview, I really don't want to mess it up. I am wondering if anyone in this sub has worked there / interviewed there / know what the process is like? I want to be as prepared as possible if I can make it through this first step lol

Hi! So I am working as a data scientist and looking to move from my current company to one specific job. I wasn't planning on changing companies, but I was browsing LinkedIn and found the job posting and now really want to work for this company.

I don't care about my current company at all, I am honestly a little embarrassed to be working there, and there are a lot of issues (they don't value their current employees, there is not mobility, people are always leaving and we are constantly having to hire new people to the team). I have been there almost 3 years, and have 1 year of professional experience prior to this.

I know, if I do make it past the sea of applications and secure an interview, they will ask why I am leaving my current company. I basically want to know what a good answer would be. The position is virtually exactly the same as the one I have now but much better pay, and I want to say something about how I wasn't looking to change jobs but then I saw this opportunity and this is now my main goal, but I don't want to come off too strong.

I really want to nail this interview. I am good with people, but I want to know what the best approach would be. Any advice helps!

TLDR: What is the best response to "Why are you leaving your current company"?
