2nd year CSE student who doesn’t enjoy coding interested in marketing/consulting instead. How should I use my summer break ?

Hey everyone,

I’m currently a 2nd year CSE engineering student and I’ve recently realized that I don’t really enjoy coding as much as I thought I would. However, I’m genuinely interested in areas like marketing, consulting, branding, strategy, communication, event management, and business-related roles.

I don’t have much experience in these fields yet, but I want to use my summer break productively and start exploring them seriously.

I wanted advice on:

- What skills should I start learning?

- What kind of internships, projects, or experiences should I look for?

- Are there any beginner-friendly certifications/courses worth doing?

- How can an engineering student build a profile for marketing or consulting?

- What things can I do during summer that would actually help in placements later?

For context, I’m comfortable with communication, creativity, organizing events, and working with people, but not very passionate about hardcore coding/development.

Would really appreciate honest advice from people who switched paths or explored non-tech careers after engineering.

Thanks!
