Fetal Focus vs Unity for low FF? 23 weeks, both parents are carriers
Hey all,
FTM, both me and dad were found to be carriers of CFTR mutations. I'm trying to get a better estimate on the chances of baby having 2 CF mutations before having to go the amnio route. I had one Fetal Focus with a borderline FF amount give me a 50% chance of them inheriting both and then a redraw at 21 weeks came back as low FF.
At this point I'm feeling frustrated with my blood and kind of tired of Natera and I was wondering if someone had better luck with BillionToOne's Unity with low FF. I think they're the only two right now in the US that test the fetus for CF.
Background: I've had 3 runs of Natera tests so far. The first came back as low FF, but I wasn't really worried because Natera is known for that. The second came back as low risk for Panorama, a carrier for CF for Horizon, and high risk for Fetal Focus due to finding another CF mutation that was not in my Horizon. Dad got tested and he was confirmed to have the other mutation.
The issue is that while I was able to get some results the second time around, I was right around the minimum threshold. They weren't able to determine with any certainty that the maternal variant was or wasn't inherited due to the low FF, just that the paternal one was definitely present.
I spoke to 2 Natera genetic counselors who said that a redraw could possibly give me a better estimate. This was news to me, and also to my OB who heard the opposite from their Natera representative that visits the office.
The disconnect between the Natera support I get and the Natera support my office gets has also caused some unnecessary conflict and frustration.
I eventually got my third redraw at 21 weeks and it came back 2 weeks later as low FF, no result. I'm devastated that it's somehow lower than last time and sick of waiting for everything. I have my appointment with MFM this week and I was hoping I would have better results by now, but since I don't I'm considering pushing to get a test from another company.
I've also heard BMI can be a factor in low FF so for reference at the start of my pregnancy I was around 29 and currently I'm almost 30. Maternal age is under 25.
