Does Bevel's smart alarm actually wake you at the right moment - and how does it even know when that is?

Been using Bevel for a few weeks now and I'm genuinely curious about the smart alarm feature. The concept sounds great - waking you up during a light sleep phase within a set window instead of yanking you out of deep sleep. But I want to understand how well it actually works in practice.

My main question: does it actually feel different? Like, do you notice waking up more naturally, less groggy, compared to a regular fixed-time alarm? Or is it mostly a placebo / marketing thing?

And the part I'm really curious about from a technical side: where does Bevel get the sleep data to make that decision? As far as I know, Apple Health stores sleep analysis data - but does Bevel actively read from HealthKit in real time while you're sleeping, or does it use its own detection somehow? And if Apple Health only generates the sleep summary after you wake up, how would Bevel know your sleep stage in the moment to time the alarm?

Feels like a bit of a chicken-and-egg problem. Would love if someone who actually understands the tech side could shed some light on this - or if anyone from the team wants to jump in, even better.
