Verifying someone's employment with the city
Hi, doing this from a burner account because I'm embarrassed I got myself in this situation. I started and have been running my own record label in TO for 6 years now. Recently I hired someone for some admin who claimed their most recent employment was an cultural admin job at the city of Toronto. We usually don't do external background checks because our business is very small.
This person has been working for us for two months now, and has demonstrated a lack of skills in admin tasks, computer skills, math skills etc. One of my employees told me that this new employee was being creepy towards her and that she had caught them in a few lies where they would tell a story about their own background and then another completely different conflicting story.
I do what I think is within my reach and I start googling them as much as I can. The only place on the internet where I could find they were employed by the city of Toronto is on their own LinkedIn.
Here's my question. Since they would've been a city employee, is there a way that I could request from the city to verify that they were actually employed by them? I know this seems like something anyone should be able to do, but I didn't find him by looking up any records from the city of Toronto + their name + the position they claim they held.
Please help me out, the music business is rough right now and I would hate to just have hired someone who not only lied about their previous employment but has also already displayed questionable behavior that has made one of my long time employees uncomfortable.
