okay peanut just had his first vet visit and he did such an amazing job but i wanted to share with the community abt what i learned and was told.

reason of going: 3 month food strike and ongoing

answer given: peanut himself is still a little chunky and he himself is aware of it causing himself to reduce his food intake. aka they themselves can be conscious abt there own weight and will go on a food strike if they feel that they can be overweight (i was surprised). tho not all sand boas are they can be aware and the only time frame of food strikes that are too long that is concerning is at the 6 month mark. keep in mind keeping a close eye on there weight is important and if there’s a significant drop pls get it checked out. i also found out that by putting ur snake near ur ear u can hear for wheezing if they have respiratory problems which is actually rare but thats one way of looking for it. also aspen shreds and chips mixed is apparently a great bedding choice for them which im very glad abt since i use it

either way, just some cool facts but i’m ngl i literally spat out to the vet “so ur saying my peanut is weight conscious 😳”!!! apparently it’s a very common thing that leds sand boas to refusing food since they recognize it but i hope this helps 😌
