Hi all, looking for insight from anyone who’s dealt with something similar.

I’m a veteran trying to help another veteran (“Kris”) who has severe depression. She hasn’t left the house in months and isn’t functioning day to day (basic hygiene, tasks, eating, sleeping etc.). At times she seems a bit disconnected from reality. Other things are going on that I won’t share here, but it’s cause for alarm.

Her child has been living with us (our children are friends) since CPS got involved in December, so this has been ongoing.

The challenge is everything depends on her to call, follow up, or go in—but she just can’t. People have tried to help before, but nothing sticks.

I’m planning to sit with her and call the Veterans Crisis Line to get her connected and hopefully into the VA system, but she’s at 0% service connected (was proud of leaving that way like so many do.)

Questions:

- Has anyone gotten the VA to engage when the veteran won’t initiate?

- Are there outreach or home-based options?

- What actually worked in a situation like this?

Appreciate any real-world experience.
