Hello,

In the final stages of a new home build. I know enough about wifi setup to be dangerous.

We will have fiber (planning for 500mb, maybe one day up to 1gb) service coming into the basement utility room, where all of our Ethernet cables have been run to. I’ve wired for cameras (6), TVs (8) and access points (3, including 1 outside on covered porch). The cameras will be installed by our home alarm company (using hykvision and their own nvr…I presume their nvr will just plug into a switch port).

Was thinking of a ubiquiti switch and 3 wired access points. My question is do I run from fiber wifi modem / ont directly to a switch? Or, do I need a gateway (Dream Router 7?) in between?

If I’m just basically trying to share the wifi signal from the fiber wifi modem, what will the Dream Router do for me to justify the $300’ish dollars? I guess I want to make sure that the wifi network will be smooth and seamless as I walk around the house in between the WiFi router and 3 access points.

Apologies if I’ve said something that isn’t clear. Let me know and I can expand with more info. Appreciate any advice.

Brian
