Is . 999999... really equal to 1? I'm sorry if this is a basic question but I am still confused. If it is the case, could we also use that argument for 0.8888.. = 8/9, 0.777777... = 7/9 and so on?

Hello! I am nearing my last years in high school and I am really interested in chemical engineering. What are some projects I could do to have an advantage when it comes to a field I'm interested in?
