I purchased Tricker's Ethan Monkey Boot in kudu leather late last year. Since then, I've worn it very sparingly and have kept up a strict regimen of brushing, shoe trees, etc. etc. thanks much in part to the great advice I've read on here. So thanks for that.

Today, I noticed a crack forming right at the top of the sole (I may not have the terminology down, but see photos for reference).  This is occurring most prominently on the left boot as worn, but I'm afraid this same damage is beginning to materialize on the right boot as well (see second photo).

I am seeking opinions on how this damage may be forming, how to prevent it from getting worse, and if this is easily repairable in the event that it does get worse (my assumption is yes, especially because the leather itself is not damaged (yet??)).

I can't recall any acute event that could have caused this damage, and the fact that it is starting to appear on the right boot as well leads me to think that maybe it could be related to:

  1. Mechanics of my walking?
  2. How I handle them? Perhaps how I take them off?
  3. Something structural with the boot itself

I reached out the Tricker's support with these same questions, but thought it prudent to get your takes as well. I welcome and appreciate any and all thoughts.
