Hi everyone, I’m a 23M looking for some clarity and advice.
I had my first therapy session last week. During the session, I didn’t mention anything about ADHD because I only recently started learning about it (around a month ago). But after reflecting on my past—from school to college to my current job—I’m starting to wonder if it might explain a lot of my behavior.
I’ve always struggled to focus on tasks that don’t interest me, even when they’re important. I tend to procrastinate a lot, sometimes even on critical work tasks, and end up missing deadlines. At the same time, if something really interests me, I can spend hours on it and completely lose track of time.
During the session, my psychologist mentioned that I show strong signs of ADHD or attention-related difficulties. That made me think more seriously about it.
For context, I’ve been working for about 1 year and 8 months. In that time, I’ve only been able to stay consistently focused during one specific 2-month period of interesting task. Outside of that, I’ve struggled to maintain attention on most of my tasks, even when they are important.
I’ve tried multiple times to improve my habits and reduce procrastination, but I’ve never been able to sustain those changes for more than a few days.
Now I’m feeling confused. Should I seek a second opinion to confirm whether I might have ADHD? Has anyone here had a similar experience before getting diagnosed?
Any suggestions or guidance would really help.
