As we refresh the dog training curriculum at The Academy of Pet Careers, what's the one skill that separates good trainers from truly great ones?

I've been in the pet industry for over 20 years. Recently I went through the process of refreshing a dog training curriculum and it got me deep into a question I can't stop thinking about.

The science is teachable. The techniques are learnable. But I keep seeing people with solid skills struggle to build lasting careers, and others with the same training absolutely thrive.

What do you think is the one skill, habit, or mindset that separates a good dog trainer from a truly great one — that has nothing to do with their ability to train a dog?
