this song hits me like a ton of bricks. From the opening piano, you’re hit with this feeling of nostalgia and longing, and you know you’re about to be hit with a dagger to the heart. there are many reasons this is my favorite song in the whole world and always will be, but one of the most overlooked feelings from this song is the first lines. ”Come up to meet you, tell you I’m sorry, you don’t know how lovely you are. I had to find you, tell you I need you, tell you I set you apart.” like holy crap man, these lyrics hits so hard for me, as I’ve felt lonely for so long and ive felt desperate for connection so many times that this is just the saddest thing for me. and then throughout the song we are hit with more amazing and sorrowful lyrics that just convey the feelings of desperation, wanting someone you love to come back to you. This song is the pinnacle of the saddest form of unrequited love, not the form where they never loved you but the form where you’ll never get them to love you again. I could go on a lot longer, but I needed to get this rant off my chest because to me this song conveys its message so well and is such a sad, beautiful song that deserves all the love it gets.
