Is this normal?
Yesterday afternoon I had a flexible sigmoidoscopy. I had pretty nasty internal hemorrhoids which they did banding on.
I didn’t have sedation as he said my veins looked rubbish and he’d spend more time getting the cannula in than the actual procedure itself, so I just had gas and air. The procedure was horrendous. The pain I experienced the nurse ended up holding
the gas and air mask for me as I couldn’t stay still or focus on my breathing.
After coming out I instantly felt the urge to go to the toilet. Only gel like stuff came out and they told me it was due to air being put up me to get a better visual.
I was sent on my way fast and didn’t really have much info given to me regarding pain management etc..
I am in agony. I feel like I need to go to toilet but can’t. I had 3 hours sleep and was woken by the pain. I’ve had a mild laxative as advised and eaten lots of fibre to try help but nothing is working. I feel like I’m going insane from the pain and I’m petrified to go back to hospital. I’ve also had off the shelf painkillers that haven’t touched the sides.
Just wondering if this is normal? Everyone I’ve asked who’s had it done have told me they didn’t experience the same aftermath as me..
