Instagram "action required" loop
Hello, I’m experiencing a very strange issue with Instagram!
For the past 20 days, my Instagram account has been going through an unusual security loop. Every day, I receive an official email stating that my account has been blocked due to “suspicious activity.” When I follow the link to reset the password and review the security settings, I notice that both two-factor authentication (2FA) and my phone number have been removed from the account settings, even though there are no unknown devices showing in the login activity history.
I tried to mitigate the issue by changing the email address associated with the account. However, after another security lock and password reset, the system automatically reverted the account back to the original email address without my authorization.
The most alarming part happened when I attempted a password reset using my username (example: juan213z). The system redirected me to a completely different account (juan213), which belongs to a user in Russia. After changing my username, the system finally allowed me to request the security code correctly.
At this point, I’m concerned that despite changing my passwords, the cycle of account locks and the removal of 2FA will continue.
Additional information:
- I used to have a different username before.
- The email account has all recommended security protections enabled.
- There are no login attempts from other locations or devices, either on the email account or on Instagram.
As of today, about half an hour ago:
- I changed the Instagram username.
- I re-enabled two-step verification.
- I added another recovery email address and reset the email account’s two-step verification as well.
