I recently moved over to DE after playing the original AOE2 game for years. The game is great but there's one thing bugging me and that's map generation. I generally play against the built-in AI in 1v1 games and get the same map generation over and over again even though it is set to 'random map'. I understand when playing with a pool of maps i'll get the same map (eg. Arabia) every few games and even with the same civ matchup on the same map. But why are everything (resource and civ locations) in these games generated the exact same way every time? Is this the default behaviour and is there a setting i can change to make it completely random?
Playing the original AOE2 for years I recall only once getting the exact same generation from a previous game.
