2026 Toyota bZ — Anyone figured out how to clean the undercarriage?
So I’ve been going down a rabbit hole trying to figure out the right way to clean the undercarriage on my leased bZ and figured I’d share what I found.
The owner’s manual says to wash the vehicle regularly to prevent corrosion, but also says not to use a high-pressure washer on the underside of the vehicle because water could get into the traction battery and cause the EV system to malfunction.
The problem is pretty much every car wash option out there uses high pressure, including touchless washes with undercarriage jets.
So I emailed Toyota customer support. Their response was interesting — they said the manual’s warnings are primarily intended for direct, close-range handheld pressure wands rather than standard automated car wash systems. They also recommended a garden hose with a long-handled brush for undercarriage care. At the end of their response they suggested consulting the dealership’s service team for further guidance.
So I called my dealership. They told me to consult the owner’s manual. 😂
Full circle. The manual sends you to customer support, customer support sends you to the dealership, and the dealership sends you back to the manual.
