I was working as an English teacher on a fixed discontinuous contract. I left my post in January, and while the contract said I had to give 2 weeks notice, I gave a days notice since I was offered a better job with better money which was to start the very next day.

I emailed the employer and asked if I were to be owed anything to which they demanded I pay €400, as they said I took extra days off by leaving early and with the days I had off over Christmas.

I recently went onto my online social security account and it says I was paid €300 in January by this employer but wasn’t.

So my question; is it legal for the previous employer to withhold money because I left the job without giving proper notice?
