So many problems in the later seasons stem from Tony choosing to shrink away when it was his big moment to move on Carmine and play a part in installing Johnny Sach as boss over the Lupertazzi family in NY. Tony was so close to solidifying more control over all his business ventures in NJ and establishing a more stable relationship with NY. Johnny Sach was right to be severely disappointed in Tony for leaving him in the lurch. That was a major power move on the same level as John Gotti trusting Sammy Gravano in his play against Paul Castellano; For Tony to out of nowhere be like "eeh, nahh, the old man settled so who cares now" was a pretty big sign of weakness in a big moment.
