Hey everyone, first time in this subreddit. Truth be told I don’t know if this is where I belong since my doctor technically hasn’t told me anything about this, but I wanted to come here to ask for some insight on some lab results.

A few months ago I went to my annual physical and did my blood work. For the most part everything seemed fine when I received the report until I noticed that my platelet count was marked as being elevated at about 575 K/uL. I was confused and a little concerned since the only other thing that was marked abnormal was my Vitamin D levels which I knew before going to the doctor that they were gonna be low.

He went over the report with me but skipped over the Platelets, which was the only glaringly big number on my labs. I asked him about it, but he said he’s not too concerned and that they’ll “keep an eye on it”

A few months go by and I do another blood test (for prescription related stuff) and while my Vitamin D improved, my platelets went up to to 598 K/uL. I asked him if I should be concerned that the number is going up, and that’s when he told me that my Ferritin is “a little low” at about 16.2 and that might be why my platelets are rising. He also mentioned that my RBC is a little high (4.95) and that the density of my hemoglobin is also on the shorter side of normal (MCHC 32.6).

He again didn’t sound too concerned and he told me to start taking iron supplements every other day. I don’t know if I should take this as me being anemic or just slightly deficient, but I just want to make sure I understand what it is I’m dealing with right now and how concerned I should be with my platelets.
