Hi all, I'm at my wits end and would really appreciate some guidance. My son has a disc copy of Modern Warfare III on PS5. He managed to play it once or twice, but for quite a few months now it has not been accessible. None of what is supposed to happen when I insert the disc is happening (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III Installation and Setup)

Hopefully the images upload in the order intended:

  1. Call of Duty home is installed. The coloured disc icon is next to it because the Modern Warfare III disc is inserted (see images 1 and 4).
  2. Selecting Manage Game Content using the Option button shows that Call of Duty home, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Multiplayer, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Multiplayer, MWIII: Campaign Pack 1, MWIII: Campaign Pack 2 and MWIII: Shared Content Pack 1 are installed (see image 2).
  3. Scrolling further down, licenses are either Usable or Usable with Disc (see image 3).
  4. Opening the Call of Duty experience, highlighting Modern Warfare III and selecting Play takes me to the PlayStation store where I'm asked to purchase the game (see images 5 and 6).
  5. Even though there was 200GB+ installed, I decided to delete anything Call of Duty related except older PS4 titles like WWII. I did this with the disc ejected. Inserting the disc again brings up the same Call of Duty HQ launch icon but now I have Copy instead of Play Game (see image 7).
  6. Selecting Copy confusingly brings me to a screen with a Modern Warfare II background. None of the options for install are Modern Warfare III (see image 8).
  7. Choosing Install Options only gives me options to install MWIII: Campaign Pack 1, MWIII: Campaign Pack 2 and MWIII: Shared Content Pack 1 (see image 9).
  8. I have not yet reinstalled this, but I suspect I'll be back at step 1 if I do.

Could someone please point me in the right direction? I looked at Activision Support and logged a ticket despite the limited info you can include in the form.

Note/Rant: I think I know the answer already, but why did Activision choose to do this? Why can't I just install MWIII without being forced to use a launcher?
