This post is twofold: part cautionary tale and part solicitation of suggestions to those who have been there.
We had or wedding and reception this past Saturday and my wife planned an absolutely spectacular event. Her only misstep may have been leaving me in charge of buying the alcohol for the reception, as our caterer’s rule was we supply it all and they serve it. Based on the caterer’s recommendations for the number of guests in attendance (which I feel were wildly inaccurate!) I now have an obscene amount of leftover alcohol.
Some historical context: we live in Pennsylvania and we can only buy from state-run liquor stores who have a ridiculously short window for returns which has passed. The beer and wine we are fine to keep; the beginnings of a good wine cellar and parties all summer where we supply the beer and an occasional bottle of tequila.
Here is my question: besides gifting (which we have already done) and considering that we are unable to return any of the liquor, what are your suggestions to diminish what we have left?
I understand that resale is wildly illegal, and any law enforcement types should not take this post as an admission of guilt or for the purpose of entrapment. That said if anyone had legal workaround of “gift-for-discounted-donation” tactics, I’m all ears😉
