My name is Joshua Brant, I’m running for Indiana State Senate District 23 (which includes Purdue), and I’m looking for students that might be looking for internships or volunteer opportunities around West Lafayette over the summer.
I know the negative karma is a bit of a red flag, so just a quick explanation: I got roasted for using AI in a previous post, but I’ve learned from the experience and am writing this myself.
If interested, students can expect hands‑on projects where they can build practical skills, work directly with community members, and see how decisions get made in real time. This includes roles where you can take ownership of tasks, learn by doing, and walk away with something concrete to talk about in future interviews. Hours are extremely flexible (i.e. part‑time, project‑based, or built around a student’s existing schedule).
Types of Work Available
• Community-facing projects: Interacting with residents, helping organize information, and getting a feel for how local issues play out on the ground.
• Logistics and operations: Scheduling, coordinating moving parts, managing details, and keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes.
• Communications and messaging: Drafting short updates, summarizing conversations, or helping translate complex topics into plain language.
• Event support: Helping set up small gatherings, greeting people, tracking attendance, and making sure things flow without hiccups.
• Research and organization: Pulling together background info, organizing notes, and helping keep materials tidy and usable.
• Creative tasks: Taking photos, capturing short video clips, or helping with simple visual content if that’s something they enjoy.
• Marketing: Plan small outreach pushes, tracking what methods get the most engagement, and learning how to adjust messaging or timing based on real‑world feedback.
• Fundraising: Organize small‑dollar donation efforts, keeping track of contributions, updating simple spreadsheets, and learning how outreach, timing, and follow‑up affect real‑world fundraising results.
This is an independent, grassroots, ant-corruption campaign with the experience and quality of education of all Purdue students in mind.
