I’ve noticed a chilling connection in Deadlock’s lore that ties Bebop, Victor and Ms.Shelley together through a tragic retelling of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.
We know Ms. Shelly is a widow suffering from a mysterious, fatal illness, and she created Bebop from scrap parts. My theory is that Ms. Shelly wasn't just building a robot; she was trying to resurrect her deceased husband. Bebop was her first attempt—a mechanical vessel that gained a soul but lacked the human essence she craved.
Driven further into darkness, she moved from machinery to flesh, eventually stitching together the character we all know as Victor (whose name is a direct nod to Victor Frankenstein). However, handling necrotic tissue and tampering with the boundary between life and death caused her to contract a rare, supernatural autoimmune disease.
The tragedy is twofold: while Victor successfully drew breath, he awoke with total amnesia and vanished into the city, leaving his creator dying from the very process that gave him life. Now, Bebop fights in the Rite to fund a cure for the woman who sacrificed her health trying to replace what she lost, and Victor for to meet his creator.
