In an interview recently she said that she couldn’t have made this album while he was still alive. I just got the physical album and I noticed in the liner notes she didn’t thank him; pretty sure thanks her mom, Mary, and others she’s lost. Veins and the other songs she wrote with her daughter seem very personal, and very much about reckoning with family/personal trauma and family secrets. Oh, and Professional Widow was about her dad??? Seems like their relationship had some dark corners.

Edit: I’m not suggesting that he physically or sexually abused her - those are not a requirement for trauma and shame.
