Teaser Image all but confirms...
SPOILERS if you haven't watched up to current episodes
From is based upon Norse mythology, not Celtic mythology. The Farway Trees are a red herring.
Here's my pieces of evidence:
- Latest teaser image people have posted depicts a troll, the symbol X, and a raven.
- Trolls are part of Norse mythology, not celtic. X is the gebo rune for gift or exchange. Ravens are messengers and spies of Odin.
- That image suggests there's some kind of exchange/deal with a troll/troll king.
- The talismans in the center have the Ingwaz, Algiz, and reverse Algiz. Other symbols include the Fehu around the inner connected runes.
- Ingwaz meaning safe, contained space/home
- Algiz representing shield and active protection
- Reverse Algiz representing roots, earth, and transition into death
- Fehu surrounding the inner runes as repeated runes symbolizes amplifying protection of physical survival and sustenance.
- Moon and Sun, on horizon, seem to depict the talismans are for protection between dusk and dawn, and to create an artificial day protection inbetween dusk and dawn
- Storywalking/fate is more closely associated with Norse mythology than Celtic mythology. In Norse mythology is about not being able to change fate and tragic nature of it. Julie's storywalking has been nothing more than one big tragedy for her.
- Julie is utilizing Seior Magic to storywalk via entering ruins. Ruins in Norse mythology are magical places.
- Even though she story walks things are already written. She was suppose to story walk so she can't change the past. This is also a heavy part of Norse mythology when someone story walks in the past
The Farway Trees were a clever red herring to steer people towards Celtic mythology. What people ignore is the idea that they could also be the result of chaotic portals created via troll magic. Used to create mazes and keep people stuck within. The moving trees can be explained by trolls and how trees can be extension of trolls and used to create mazes, etc.
Here's what I strongly believed happened. There was a contract combined with a gift with the MIY, who is otherwise a jotnar or troll king (he can walk around during the day). The monsters are lesser trolls and can't be out in the sunlight (they would turn to stone). The talismans are protecting the people from the lesser trolls between dusk and dawn, as depicted via the bind runes.
"Tip of the spear," are lesser trolls with the MIY being the troll king.
There's a gift and exchange loop going on, a gebo and troll-bargain that first started with the children, and now everyone who had children sacrificed get pulled back in and they draw loved ones/people they know in with them. There are rules and prices to pay if that contract is broken by the inhabitants. They are slaughtered and the loop resets.
Odin is watching via the ravens and they are ultimately trapped on the edge of Niflheim.
