I’ve met several United fans recently and can’t for the life of me understand it. I fly a lot of narrow body FC and American is just so much better.
Hard product on American is so much more comfortable and consistent. United flies some ANCIENT seating configs that are really broken down and uncomfortable. Also United row 1 bulkheads are always really cramped, whereas I love row 1 on American.
American consistently has better catering. United meals are usually kinda flavorless.
I usually get good crews on all my flights but I find AA crews to be a bit “warmer” whereas United service is a little more aloof.

I will say that Polaris is good when I’ve tried it, but AA has basically caught up, especially with Flagship lounges. For narrow body though I think United is crap.
