Hey guys,

After Active duty military service, I was honorably discharged, I’ve had multiple jobs as a contractor with a Security clearance… no issues.

I had some problem while in the reserves (admin sep, no drugs, no big issues) and got separated with Other than honorable.

So now I have two service periods:

• Active Duty - Honorable

• Reserves - Other Than Honorable

I currently work as a contractor and still hold an active clearance. My question is: how could this affect me in terms of Security clearance and future contracts/federal jobs?

From what I’ve researched, an OTH in my files is basically a 666 beast mark that could prevent me from working for the government. Is that true?

Thanks in advance🙏🏼

Hey guys,

After AD, I was honorably discharged and bought into the idea (partly out of fear about the future and struggling with civilian life) of joining the Reserves “just in case” I needed to go back. I was awarded some disability, issues with my back, knee, and hand, all service-related and well documented.

I spent months trying to transfer to the IRR due to my health conditions. It was difficult to complete annual PT, and with everything going on in my life, I ended up moving to another state. At that point, I realized the Reserves wasn’t for me. My IRR request was denied, and I tried to show that I wasn’t fit for duty, at least for my rate/MOS, but nothing came of it.

Eventually, I stopped showing up (which I know wasn’t the right thing to do, and I take responsibility for that). I ended up receiving an administrative discharge under Other Than Honorable conditions.

So now I have two service periods:

• Active Duty - Honorable

• Reserves - Other Than Honorable

I currently work as a part-time contractor and still hold an active clearance. My question is: how could this affect me in terms of VA benefits and my security clearance?

From what I’ve researched, an OTH discharge could impact VA benefits or even my chances of getting a federal job. Has anyone gone through something similar? Are federal jobs out of the picture from now on?

Thanks in advance🙏🏼
